Sourav Ganguly to replace Ravi Shastri as Team Director?

The shift of power in BCCI means look of the team, support staff could also undergo a change as well

Mumbai: It is now more or less clear that former tainted Board of Control for Cricket in India chief N Srinivasan has lost the battle with cricket’s governing body in the country. Now according to reports, the shift of power in the BCCI means the look of the team and the support staff could also undergo a change as well.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, with new President Jagmohan Dalmiya at the helm, players, members, administrators and support staff from Srinivasan’s regime maybe shown the door. This implies that current Team Director of the India cricket team Ravi Shastri may also not feature in the new scheme of things.

A source close to the BCCI was quoted in the daily saying, “Dalmiya believes Shastri has been pro-Srinivasan. He does not see Shastri as a long-term member of the team. He is very keen on having Sourav Ganguly as a part of the national setup. Dalmiya believes Shastri has not delivered the results too.”

Shastri, who had taken over as team director during the ODIs in England last year had heaped immense praises on Srinivasan after the IPL was rocked by the 2013 spot-fixing scandal. While the Indians won the ODI tussle against Alastair Cook's men, they were blanked on their trip Down Under, losing both the Test series 0-2 before failing to win a single game in the tri-series. Even in the World Cup, the Men in Blue failed to defend the title.

The source further added, "Ganguly knows how to win abroad. He is India's most successful captain away from home. Shastri has not got us the results we wanted, so we could ask Ganguly to step in. It is unlikely Shastri will go to Bangladesh, so he could go back to his media commitments."
