NEW DELHI: TRS MPs on Tuesday raised the issue of “delay” in setting up of separate High Court in Telangana forcing several adjournments in Lok Sabha.
Agitated TRS members stormed the Well repeatedly as law minister Sadananda Gowda’s assurance that he would try to find a solution soon failed to satisfy them as they insisted that the Centre has not taken the final call despite repeatedly making promises in the past.
“What is the need of a discussion now. You need to take a decision,” TRS floor leader Jithender Reddy said after Mr Gowda’s assurance that he would meet all Telangana MPs within 15 days.
Mr Gowda said the Centre has being making sincere efforts for setting up a separate High Court for the newly carved state, but its “hands are tied” after a PIL was filed in Andhra Pradesh High Court.
“The matter has become sub-judice. Because of this our hands are tied. As soon as the High Court decides... We are at it. Certainly, we will have a High Court for Telangana at the earliest,” Mr Gowda said.
“Parliament needed to be respected” the members shouted contending that it had passed Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act which had promised a separate High Court for Telangana.
As the House met for the day, the TRS members started their protest to demand immediate establishment of a separate Telangana High Court and trooped
into the Well with placards.
“Please don’t show all these things (placards)... They are not allowed,” Mahajan said and also cautioned that action could be taken against the members.
