13 years on, Salman Khan hit-and-run victims demand compensation

‘What will we get even if he's punished?’

Lucknow/Sultanpur: Following a Mumbai sessions court finding Bollywood superstar Salman Khan guilty in the 2002 hit-and-run case, the victims of that fateful night have demanded compensation.

"What will we get even if he's punished? We only want compensation," said Mohammad Sheikh, one of those injured in the incident.

Another victim, Mohammad Kalim from Sultanpur, said that he was happy with the verdict but wanted compensation.

The actor was earlier in the day handed out a five-year jail term by a Mumbai sessions court after being found guilty of all charges in the case.

The case took a curious turn when Salman's driver Ashok Singh told the court in March that he was driving the car when the incident occurred. However, the prosecution questioned his silence over the last 12 years and accused him of lying under oath.

The actor had earlier told the court that he was neither driving the car nor was he drunk when the accident took place.

However, the statement contradicts the chemical analyst's report, which states that the alcohol present in Salman's blood was at more than double the permissible limit.

The verdict will also create an adverse affect on his forthcoming films "Bajrangi bhaijaan' and 'Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo'.
