Visvesvaraya Technological University bears expenses of both petitioner and respondent

Now students are crying foul over the issue

Bengaluru: This may sound strange but true. In this case, a state-owned university is bearing the expenses of both the petitioner as well as the respondent from its exchequer. Now students are crying foul over the issue. They ask why their fee money should be utilized for a legal tussle which is aimed at protecting the university authorities from alleged complaints of corruption.

It all started with Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala appointing retired Karnataka high court judge Justice Ajith Gunjal to hold an enquiry into the various allegations of corruption in the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.

The Governor had included the various decisions taken by the VC Dr. H Maheshappa in the ambit of the inquiry. Immediately the university moved the Dharwad High Court seeking relief from the inquiry, which was dismissed. Later the university moved the double bench which also dismissed the petition.

But now according to sources, the university is itself paying the legal expenses of both the respondent (governor’s office) as well as the petitioner (VTU).
