Knife point threat to inspector’s wife

Unidentified man enters Ashok Nagar quarters to threaten cop’s wife
Chennai: An unidentified man allegedly entered the Ashok Nagar police quarters on Sunday and threatened at knife-point the wife of an inspector attached to the anti-gangster team of the central crime branch (CCB). The man had entered the quarters of inspector M. Sivaram Kumar, and threatened his wife Sivakami after the official had left home. The man was dressed in a white shirt and black pant and was wearing a helmet. Brandishing a knife, the man threatened her with dire consequences if her husband did not stop what he was doing and even said he would not hesitate to eliminate her husband.
The police said the man was waiting on his bike for Sivaram Kumar to leave the house on Sunday morning. The inspector and his wife had noticed the man on his bike in front of the gate.Immediately after the inspector left in his vehicle, the man came to the house and enquired how she was related to the inspector.“I thought he was a lawyer because he was dressed in black and white. When I told him that it was my husband who went out, he started threatening,” said Sivakami.
He took out a knife and asked her to advice husband to stop intervening in the ways of certain thugs, she said. When Sivakami started shouting back at him and a few other residents rushed out of their houses, the man escaped on his bike. By the time Sivakami ran behind the bike to note down the vehicle registration number, he had vanished.
She later lodged a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police.
The police believe that the mystery man could be a part of gang involved in smuggling of red sanders as the inspector was part of a team that seized 3 tonnes of red sanders worth '5 crore from a carrom board making unit in Jafferkhanpet last week. Police sources said the inspector had issued summons to a crime accused a week back and it was possible that he came to meet and threaten the inspector’s family.
