Hyderabad: Telangana Telugu Desam leaders are pitching to hold the mega Mahanadu this year in Hyderabad to take on the TRS government ahead of the GHMC polls slated for the year end.
The three-day mega Mahanadu is held once in two years and is due in May this year. TD president and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has not finalised the venue.
Telangana TD chief L. Ramana and senior leaders Errabelli Dayakar Rao and A. Revanth Reddy have already asked Mr Naidu to hold the mega event in Hydera-bad so that the party can effectively take on the TRS government.
They have also told Mr Naidu that the mega Mahanadu can instil confidence in the Seemandhra-dominated constituencies in the GHMC area in the city, where most seats were won by the TD-BJP combine in the general elections.
“We are hopeful that the party president will agree to our request. The politburo meeting scheduled to be held on May 2 will take a final decision on this,” Mr Ramana told Deccan Chronicle.
The AP unit is demanding that the event be held in the Amaravati capital region near Vijayawada and Guntur cities as this would be the first major event of the party after coming to power almost a year ago. Their contention is that holding the meeting in Amaravati would build confidence among the people on the construction of the capital.
But sources in the TD headquarters told this newspaper that it would be a mere formality to announce mega Mahanadu in Hyderabad so that logistics like accommodation, transport and boarding for 30,000 odd party delegates would not pose any problem.
Meanwhile, at separate media conferences, both Mr Dayakar Rao and Mr Revanth Reddy slammed TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his comments on Mr Naidu at Monday’s rally.
They said Mr Rao has “no scruples and values in politics.” They challenged Mr Rao to win a majority in the GHMC polls if at all the TRS enjoys public support.
Mr Dayakar Rao demanded that the Chief Minister come for an open debate on the development done in Hyderabad.
