Central team to devise plans

After a study of geographical strength, they will announce plan for Nellore
Nellore: A team from Union Urban Development Ministry headed by senior officials Dinesh Karade and Mehtab Alam embarked on a study on existing facilities, geographical strengths, shortcomings and future needs of the people to prepare a detailed project report for Comprehensive City Development Plan for Nellore city.
The team deputed by Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu inspecting the dumping yards, sewerage plants, water supply system, traffic issues in Nellore Municipal Corporation limits to devise the plan for the project.
According to NMC mayor Abdul Azeez, the study will cover urban infrastructure facilities such as transport, drinking water, sewerage, drainage and solid waste management among others.
The idea behind the study is to enhance the sustainability of urban infrastructure facilities by implementing reforms such as energy audit, water audit, introduction of cost effective technologies, capacity enhancement for improved operation and maintenance.
He said that central assistance will be admissible for the components such as water supply and sanitation, sewerage and solid waste management, development of greenery besides capacity building assistance for implementation of reforms identified under central schemes. The funding under the scheme would be subject to availability of infrastructure and actual needs.
Mr Azeez said that the team has inspected old city areas, 150 acres of site available for sewerage treatment plant near Allipuram, garbage dumping yards and summer storage tank among other places in the city.
One of the senior officers of ministry of urban development, Government of India, Mr Mehtab Alam, said that the study is meant for a citizen centric project.
