Mumbai: Hema Malini’s twoday Mathura Krishna Mahotsav kick-started on a positive note. Despite the earthquake in Nepal and parts of India, crowds flocked in large numbers from nearby places like Agra and the villages.
The highlight of the event, however, was the presence of yesteryear’s action hero Dharmendra, who was there to support wife Hema. Dharamji had promised to visit Mathura while Hema Malini was contesting for elections last year.
Dharamendra arrived at the location almost an hour before the prescribed time. He went to Hema’s make-up room, then later waited patiently in his van till the event started. Sounding emotional, Dharamendra said, “I thank all my Jat bhais for their unconditional support to Hema Malini. Hema is striving to make Mathura a clean and a self-equipped nagri for her Mathura vasis. She is not leaving any stone unturned.
“I also want to thank Akhilesh Yadav for extending his support on the state level. I enjoyed a close connection with the Yadavs, during my short political stint.” Dharamendra continued, “My Jat bhai farmers here have produced grains for us and enabled every Indian to fill their stomachs and live life to the fullest. Had these Jats not existed, who would have fed our Indian brethren. My heart bleeds, my eyes fill with tears, when I hear that these farmers are losing their lives. The latest rain and hail storms destroyed their farms. However, Jats are known to deal with every setback with great strength.”
Promoting the religious values of Mathura city, he said, “Yeh Krishna ki janam bhoomi hai. People from all over the world like to visit it and learn more about Lord Krishna. We, therefore, need to make Mathura a garbage free city so that tourism flourishes.” Jaya Bachchan, too, was present at the show which was hosted by Sonu Sood. Arjun Baweja, Shraddha and Aditi Hydari performed some dance numbers.
