CID to probe Mysuru rape case?

The state government is likely to transfer the Mysuru rape case to CID

Bengaluru: The state government is likely to transfer the Mysuru rape case to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with the complainant’s family seeking transfer of the case from Mysuru and the Mysuru police reportedly expressing their reluctance to investigate the high-profile case with both sides – the victim and the accused being highly influential and well known.

A top government source told this newspaper that Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Om Prakash had instructed former Mysuru Commissioner Abdulla Saleem, (before his transfer on Saturday), to initiate the investigation and proceed as “per law”, but there has been no significant progress in the case in the last 10 days, since it was transferred to Mysuru on April 15.

“The police chief along with some senior cops mulled at the option of handing the case over to the Inspector General of Police (Southern range), but this would set a dangerous precedent in the police department of going soft on ‘reluctant’ officers and superceding them in sensitive and high-profile cases. Moreover, the victim’s family does not want the case to be investigated in Mysuru so the only option is to transfer the case to CID,” said a senior officer.

Though DGP, CID Bipin Gopal Krishna has reportedly told the DG&IGP that he socially knew the family of the accused – owners of Basappa Memorial Hospital (B.M. Hospital), Mysuru quite well and that his involvement in the investigation of the case may be ‘awkward’ the government is likely to transfer the case to CID.
