Kochi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Friday said the '20,000-crore Integrated Refinery Expansion Project (IREP) of BPCL Kochi Refinery has reached physical progress of about 75 per cent.
The chief minister who went around the site said the progress in the project is an example where people of all sections extended their cooperation.
“All stake-holders including the labour unions, local Panchayats, district administration, the police department and local political leadership helped the timely implementation of the project,” the Chief Minister said.
Mr Chandy said the unprecedented agreement by labour unions in Kochi Refinery to ensure uninterrupted work at the site for timely completion of project was commendable.
The project envisages expansion of the refining capacity of Kochi Refinery by 6 million metric tonnes and capability to produce Euro 4 petroleum fuels.
Mr Chandy said the project was facilitated by the financial incentive extended by state government. He recalled that he had taken the decision for enabling the project in consultation with the Finance Minister K M Mani on the spot when BPCL made the proposal.
Excise Minister K Babu, V P Sajeendran, MLA district collector MG Rajamanickam and officials of BPCL Kochi Refinery accompanied the Chief Minister. Earlier, BPCL Kochi Refinery executive director Prasad K Panicker received the Chief Minister.
