Every moment spent with Jay is crazy: Mahi Vij

Actress talk about their contrasting backgrounds and a second wedding in Vegas among others
Jay Bhanushali and Mahi Vij are leading TV actors in their own right. But together, their brand quotient shoots even higher. In an interview with us, the couple tell us what they love best about each other.
How did you guys meet?
Jay: The first time I saw Mahi was at a card party thrown by a common friend. I was attracted towards her right then. We didn’t converse as such, since she was there only for 5-10 minutes. But after a year, we met again at a club. This time too, through a common friend, and that’s how we clicked.
Mahi: Yes, our mutual friends introduced us and that time, I had no idea that they were trying to get Jay and me together!
What was your first impression?
Jay: What I loved about Mahi was that she didn’t pay any attention to me. That’s not usually the case when I meet girls! But in Mahi’s case, I had to make an effort to draw her attention.
Mahi: I found him cool and funny. Also, cute.
How did you bond with each other’s family and friends?
Jay: With friends, it wasn’t an issue because her friends became my friends. With family, hers is a proper Punjabi one and till date, I can’t talk to her parents confidently. It’s a bit of a communication gap we have but there’s a lot of mutual respect.
Mahi: For me, it wasn’t much of a problem because we were never compelled to follow any rituals or traditions.
A special memory from your wedding
Jay: In her family, every celebration starts with a Patiala peg. That was quite shocking for my Gujarati family since in our weddings, usually alcohol is not served. However, at my wedding, alcohol was flowing from every corner! Also Punjabis don’t need a reason to celebrate. Every day is a celebration for them and a Patiala peg is a must!
Mahi: I wish I was as thin as I was when I got married!
What do you admire about each other and what are the things you’d like to change?
Jay: Mahi is a very good wife. She is caring, loving and her life begins and ends with me. I would like to change that. She thinks too much about me, more than anyone else. If I make a plan, she cancels all her plans to come with me. I want her to take care of herself too.
Mahi: I admire his trust in people, but I would like him to become street smart and understand people’s motives better.
What are the tips you’d like to give other couples to keep the romance alive?
Jay: The best thing is to go for a small vacation every six months. That will make the bond strong and help you get to know each other better.
Mahi: You need to be friends after marriage too. Talk and have fun to make your journey beautiful.
Craziest moment together:
Jay: In Vegas, when we decided to marry again in the Christian way. We had no guests, no witnesses. Just a minister and us.
Mahi: Every moment with Jay is crazy.
