Rangareddy district TD president Manchireddy goes pink, more in line

The Telangana Telugu Desam unit received a setback on Wednesday
Hyderabad: The Telangana Telugu Desam unit received a setback on Wednesday with a fresh defection. A day before party president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s tour to Mahabubnagar district as part of strengthening the party in the state, Ibrahimpatnam MLA and Rangareddy district TD president Manchireddy Kishen Reddy quit and joined the ruling TRS.
A two-time MLA, Mr Reddy was considered a close confidant of Mr Naidu. He met Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday and later announced his decision to quit the TD. Major irrigation minister T. Harish Rao accompanied Mr Reddy to the CM’s residence this morning.
According to Mr Reddy, he was impressed with his meeting with the CM, who promised taking up several developmental projects in the backward Ibrahimpatnam constituency. “I took the decision to quit the Telugu Desam and join the TRS only because of my constituency which is deprived of development. When I asked my followers, they all supported my move,” he told reporters outside the CM’s residence.
Though he has announced his resignation from the TD and the post of president of Rangareddy district party unit, he has not quit the MLA post like many other MLAs who have defected to the ruling party recently.
In the Assembly, Mr Reddy is the fourth MLA to defect to the TRS. Meanwhile TRS party sources said, two more MLAs from Congress and three more from the TD are also ready to quit in a phased manner.
