Adani Power ready to set up solar park in Ramnad

Adani has applied for conducting a load flow study to set-up 1,000 MW solar power plant
Chennai: In a step towards firming up its decision to set up a solar park in Tamil Nadu, Adani Power Ltd has applied to Tangedco for a load flow study to establish 1,000 MW solar plant in Ramanathupuram district.According to a senior Tangedco official, Adani has applied for conducting a load flow study to set-up 1,000 MW solar power plant at Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district.
“The flow study will be done by Central Electricity Authority as the 1,000 MW projects falls under the 400 KV voltage category. The study for the projects with less than 220/110 KV voltage will be done by Tangedco,” said the official.
The official said that Adani, which is the country’s biggest private thermal power producers, is yet complete the land acquisition for the solar power project. The establishing of the solar project will be confirmed only if the company signs power purchase agreement with Tangedco.
The state has signed up power purchase agreements with 20 companies for 260 MW till last week. So far, Tangedco has received application for the erection of solar power plants of 6,300 MW capacity.
A senior Tangedco official cited delay in land acquisition for less number of signing of PPA with solar developers despite TNERC extending the control period of solar tariff of Rs7.01 per unit till April next year.
With solar power producers opting for Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts which have highest solar radiation in the state, Tamil Nadu transmission corporation has begun its work on establishing a 400 KV substation in Kamuthi and 230 KV SS in Tiruchuli in Thoothukudi district. “We have awarded contract to commence work on the 230 KV substation,” sources said, adding that tenders has been floated for the 400 KV substation. “We will make ready all the solar power evacuation facility before the power projects reaches commissioning stage,” the official said.
