CM KCR wants no graft in Aasara scheme

The government witnessed a clamour for getting enrolled as beneficiaries
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed officials to ensure that all eligible persons get pension under the state government’s Aasara scheme, and weed out those who are ineligible.
“Around 10 to 15 per cent of the people, who are receiving Aasara pension, could be ineligible for availing such a government sop. But they appear to have been included as beneficiaries due to local political support,” said government sources, quoting certain reports.
Under the Aasara scheme, the TRS-led state government pays a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to aged, disabled, widow, weavers and toddy tappers. Earlier under the Congress dispensation, the pensioners used to get only Rs 200 a month.
After the increase in pension, the government witnessed a clamour for getting enrolled as beneficiaries. “Leaders of rival parties did not object to the inclusion of ineligible persons,” the official said.
