Saradha scam: CBI files chargesheet against former union minister Matang Sinh

Sinh was charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday filed a charge sheet against former union minister Matang Sinh and his four companies in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam.

"Chargesheet submitted today against accused Matang Sinh, Shib Narayan Das and four companies like Northeast Multimedia Private Ltd., Positive Radio, Unit Network Television, Impulsive Production Limited. We filed this application beforE the court and Cognizance has duly taken by the court. Huge amount is involved in this case and criminal conspiracies are there," CBI lawyer Partha Sarthi Dutta told the media.

Sinh, who was arrested by the CBI's Special Investigation Team on February 1, was charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds related to Saradha Realty, one of the companies of the group which is being probed by the agency.

Earlier on December 23 last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had reportedly attached a flat belonging to Sinh in Versova, Mumbai, and an entire building in Guwahati.

Earlier this month, Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami had to resign for allegedly trying to stall Matang Sinh's arrest. He was replaced by L.C Goyal, a 1979 batch IAS officer belonging to the Kerala cadre.
