Jawaharlal Nehru govt spied on Subhas Chandra Bose's family for 20 years, reveals IB

New Delhi: The Intelligence Bureau has revealed that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru spied on the family of freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for two decades from 1948 to 1968, as reported by India Today.

Even after Nehru’s death on May 27, 1964, spying continued for four years even after his death.

The two recently-declassified Intelligence Bureau files, which are now in the National Archives, reveal unprecedented surveillance on the kin of Bose between 1948 and 1968.

As per the report, the IB spied on the two houses which belonged to Bose in Calcutta -- 1 Woodburn Park and 38/2 Elgin Road -- and reported directly to Nehru. The agency copied letters written by family members of Bose and tracked their visits within country and abroad.

The IB mainly tracked Sarat Chandra Bose's sons and Netaji’s nephew siblings - Sisir Kumar Bose and Amiya Nath Bose.

The revelation comes a day after the Calcutta High Court directed the Centre to give its reasons for declining to declassify secret files on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
