Terror suspects wanted to kill Narendra Modi

Viquar conspired to conduct training camp in Anantagiri forest areas in Vikarabad

Hyderabad: Terror suspects Viquar Ahmed and five others had floated the terror outfit called Tehreek Galba e-Islam (TGI) after the Macca Masjid blast in August 2008. They followed the tactics of the Simi, be it attacking cops or carrying out robberies for terror funding.

The group was involved in the killing of three policemen, including constable U. Ramesh of the APSP battalion, by attacking a police picket at Shalibanda in 2010. They had also killed constable Vinay Yadav near an HDFC bank branch in Ahmedabad, when he tried to stop a robbery bid in 2007. Investigators revealed the group was plotting to eliminate Narendra Modi, who was then CM of Gujarat. The gang conducted a reconnaissance in Gujarat.

Police said the group was similar to Simi’s Maal-e-Ganeemat (terror funding through robberies) module and were committing dacoities to fund terror activities. Most of the Simi cadres are associated with the Viquar module. “Earlier, Viquar belonged to the fundamentalist organisation Darsgah-e-Jihad-o-Shahadath and had indulged in many terror offences. They considered terrorist Mohammed Fasiuddin as their role model. Their aim was to eliminate police personnel who were responsible for killing of Muslims in the police firing after the Macca Masjid blast in 2007,” police said.

Viquar conspired to conduct training camp in Anantagiri forest areas in Vikarabad.

Later, Viquar and his associates committed robberies at e-Seva centres in Malakpet, Santoshnagar, Banjara Hills, Saroornagar, Chikkadpally to fund terror activities. They were involved in four firing incidents on police personnel.

In one of the firing incidents, Counter Intelligence Cell head constables Rama Raju, Kasanna and Md.Jaffer were injured at Santoshnagar in 2008. Viquar injured a constable Rajendra Prasad and killed home guard Balaswamy in 2009.
