Andhra Pradesh in fix over liquor shops

AP govt is in dilemma on whether to take over entire liquor business

Hyderabad: The liquor syndicate is trying to prevent the AP government from adopting the Tamil Nadu policy to take over the liquor business across the state.

The AP government is in a dilemma on whether to take over the entire liquor business in the state.

With a view of increasing the state revenue finance minister Yanamala Rama Krishnudu approved of the takeover.

However, sources said the AP government was having second thoughts and was planning to take over some liquor shops in every district on a pilot project.

Meanwhile in the Rayala-seema region, a majority of liquor shops are run by political leaders irrespective of parties, earning them huge revenues. Again-st this background if the government takes over the liquor business the political leaders who are involved in liquor business will lose a lot of money. Sources said irrespective of parties some political leaders are trying to prevent the government’s move on liquor business.

Finance minister Yana-mala has asked the officials to study the Tamil Nadu policy and prepare a draft policy and submit it. Excise mi-nister Kollu Ravindra said that the draft will be ready by the end of the month.
