Andhra Pradesh: Global tenders soon for construction of Amaravati

Singapore, Japan to play key role in development

Hyderabad: After the Singapore government submits the master plan for the construction of Andhra Pradesh’s capital city Amaravati in the last week of May or first week of June, the government will start the global tender process to select the master developer.

Sources said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu might travel abroad to discuss the issue with developers and explain the investment opportunities in the new capital city.

AP officials said that the Singapore and Japan governments would play key roles in the construction of the capital.

Mr Naidu wants some of the buildings to be completed within a year of starting work. Sources said that he is planning to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the representatives of the Singapore and Japan governments for the foundation-laying function. The date, however, is yet to be finalised.

The Central government released Rs1,500 crore for the construction of the capital in the previous financial year and Mr Naidu is aiming to get some more funds this year. But unless last year’s Rs 1,500 crore is spent, the Centre will not release additional funds.

Before starting construction work, the state government will send a Detail Project Report (DPR) to the Centre on the basis of the masterplan that will be submitted by the Singapore government.
