Student hangs self in Hyderabad, act caught on camera

The boy committed suicide due to chronic illness and poor performance in studies

Hyderabad: A surveillance camera in Meerpet recorded the suicide of an engineering student.

The victim who was depressed over his chronic illness and poor performance in studies committed suicide at his house in the early hours of Sunday.

He hanged himself from the ceiling and the surveillance camera in his house captured the act. The cops recovered the footage later.

The deceased, Anand Sai Reddy, 22, was a BTech third year student of Vardhaman College of Engineering in Shamsh-abad and a resident of Lalitha Nagar in Meerpet.

Police said Anand Sai Reddy was suffering from chronic illness and despite treatment there was no improvement.

“Anand locked his room from the inside and hanged himself with a lungi from a rod in the ceiling while his parents were away,” said inspector G. Biksham Reddy.

Cops found that a CCTV installed in the room captured the suicide. “We suspect he wasn’t aware or forgot about the camera,” the inspector said.

A case under Section 174 has been booked. The body was shifted to the Osmania General for postmortem.
