Telangana woman to become commercial pilot with state support

K Chandrashekar Rao sanctioned Rs 35.5 lakh to Syeda Salva Fatima

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 35.5 lakh to Syeda Salva Fatima whose "family income is low and cannot afford huge fees" to undergo a training course, on completion of which she would become a full-fledged commercial pilot.

Rao handed over to her a letter sanctioning the financial support to undergo Multiengine Rating and Type Rating Training Course for pilots at his camp office.

Fatima, a graduate from Dr B R Ambedkar Open University, is the first Muslim woman from old city here to pursue the course, the CMO said in a statement.

"With this money, Fatima will become a full-fledged commercial pilot after completion of the training. Fatima thanked the Chief Minister for the help," it said.

Earlier, MLC Farooq Hussain and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi had requested the government to consider Fatima's request.

The sanction letter is based on verification of details of the applicant by minorities welfare director, who mentioned in his report that the woman's father is working in a bakery and her husband is an employee in a private company.

As such, the income of the family is very low and they cannot afford the huge fees and requested the government for financial support, the release said.

The financial assistance would be released to Telangana State Aviation Academy when the applicant takes admission there, it said.
