Fire at Erragadda cable storehouse

Careless smoking might have sparked the blaze, says preliminary survey
Hyderabad: A fire broke out at one of electricity department’s cable storehouse in GPS Colony, near Kalyannagar Chourasta in Erragadda, on Monday. No casualties or injuries were reported. The blaze couldn’t be doused easily and fire tenders from Sanathnagar, Kukatpally, Gowliguda and Secunderabad were pressed into service. Eventually, mechanical foam was also used to control the fire.
The cable storehouse is an open area where over 100 reels of cable were stored. Four reels of 160 KW cable were badly damaged in the fire. Shareef, the ground in-charge of the fire fighting team, said, “From the preliminary survey of the place, we think careless smoking might have sparked the blaze. The fire safety system at the storehouse was also not proper.”
As per the officials of the electricity department, around goods worth Rs 10 lakh were damaged.
