Telangana: KCR wants 2,000 extra slots for Haj

‘Last year, the quota of slots allotted to the combined state of AP was 5,580’

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday urged the Centre to allot an additional Haj quota of 2,000 slots to Telangana keeping in view of the large number of pilgrims from Hyderabad.

Rao had sent a letter to Union minister for external affairs Sushma Swaraj expressing disappointment over the meagre quota allotted to TS in 2015.

In his letter, Rao pointed out, “Last year, the quota of slots allotted to the combined state of AP was 5,580 and subsequently after allotment of cancelled seats etc., a total of 6,043 pilgrims went to Haj from AP. It is very surprising that the quota has now been reduced to 4,945 slots (2,700 slots allotted to Telangana and 2,245 slots to Andhra Pradesh). About 15,419 people have applied for the 1,223 slots left open after reservation i.e., more than 12 people vying for a single slot.”
