Buoyant BJP all set to cut Trinamool to size

The BJP claimed to have crossed the 30 lakh membership mark in Bengal

New Delhi: With the passage of the coal mines Bill and mines and minerals Bill through the Rajya Sabha, the BJP is now set to unleash a fresh series of attacks on the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal.

The BJP had been holding its fire as it needed the Trinamul Congress’ support for key reforms legislation. Also, with the CBI heat increasing on the Trinamul, party supremo Mamata Banerjee had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Though Trinamul leaders claimed the meet had “nothing to do with scams or CBI cases”, some felt the Modi government had managed to “convince” Ms Banerjee to lend support to key pieces of legislation pending in Parliament.

The BJP, which claimed to have crossed the 30 lakh membership mark in Bengal, will now unleash its attack on the Trinamul. “We have so far been busy with our membership drive,” BJP leader in charge of Bengal Siddharth Nath Singh said.

It was pointed out that there had been a lull, and even the CBI had gone silent on the Saradha scam. A few weeks ago the CBI had sent a fresh notice to the Trinamul Congress’ new all-India general secretary, Mr Subrata Bakshi, seeking details of the party’s earnings from paintings and other sources. This came after the Trinamul disowned Mr Mukul Roy’s reply.
