Battle between protestors: 1 dies of heart attack, many hurt in violence

The deceased protester was identified as Rajappan, 65, of Nedumangad

Thiruvananthapuram: The city turned into a battlefield between LDF protesters and the police following the mayhem in the Assembly on Friday. Clashes erupted at many places leading to the death of one person, injuries to several others and about 30 police personnel, including city law and order DCP Ajeetha Begum and Medical College CI Sheen Tharayil. Police resorted to lathicharge, burst grenades and used water cannons to disperse the crowds who pelted stones at the police and burnt several vehicles, including a police van.

The deceased protester was identified as Rajappan, 65, of Nedumangad, who died of a heart attack in spite of being rushed to the Medical College in an ambulance from PMG, where the violence erupted. Around 12 protesters were admitted to the Medical College with injuries.
