Doors of new capital thrown open to Japanese investors

Hyderabad: Some crucial components of the draft of the master plan for the new capital were unveiled here by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to attract investments from Japanese investors.

Mr Naidu threw open the doors of the “to-be-built” world-class capital city for representatives of 100-odd companies from Japan on Thursday. The Chief Minister urged them to build another Tokyo in the capital region and make AP a destination for Japanese investments.

According to the draft master plan prepared by Surbana and Jurong, that have been given the task by the Singapore government, Mr Naidu showcased Vijayawada/capital city areas as business and trading hub in IT, ITes, electronics, auto and agriculture-processing and Guntur as an agriculture-trading hub, processing and textile.

While Vijayawada, Tadepalli, Mangalagiri and Tullur are shown as part of the mega world-class capital city, Amaravati and Guntur are out of not part of the mega-city area.

The draft master plan shows the green field capital city over 374 square kms and the metropolitan region in 7,068 sq kms with a projected population of 3,741.3 crore by 2050. The anticipated work force is six million (incremental 3.5 million) with a projected investment of $30 billion in the next decade.

Showcasing investment opportunities in AP, particularly the capital region, Mr Naidu offered fast clearances and said there is a massive potential for Public Private Partnership investments in the state.

Mr Naidu presented the proposed development corridors also in the draft master plan.

Stating that seven nodes are planned under this category, he said the immediate priority is to promote Node 1 and 2, which are part of Hyderabad-Machilipatnam stretch. Node 3 and 4 are part of the Vizag-Chennai stretch.

The draft master plan indicates Nandigama as the would-be pharmaceutical hub, Nuzvid as a fabrication hub and Amaravati as the tourism hub with focus on temples, schools and heritage.

Mr Naidu was addressing a seminar on ‘Expanding Technology Cooperation for Smart Community in Andhra Pradesh.’

Stating that India and Japan are natural allies for business and also investments, he appealed for making Andhra Pradesh a destination for Japanese investments and to build another Tokyo as the new capital region of AP.
