CETs leave Telangana, Andhra Pradesh poorer

Both states have decided to conduct their own entrance tests separately
Hyderabad: Once a profit making venture, conducting the eight Common Entrance Tests, including Eamcet, could leave the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments with losses.
Both states have decided to conduct their own entrance tests separately this year. While AP is yet to initiate the procedure, Telangana State Council of Higher Education has estimated that it could face losses this year since the number of students who will attempt the exam will be fewer, while the overhead costs will remain the same. Officials are tight lipped about the estimated loss figures.
An estimated 2.5 lakh students could appear for the TS Eamcet this year which means the government is expecting about Rs 5 crore from the exam. As per estimates, all CETs together could lead to a loss of about Rs 3 crore for the government.
TSCHE chairman Prof T. Papi Reddy said, “The overhead costs remain the same despite bifurcation and the number of aspirants are coming down. We are expecting some losses, but this is not a commercial venture. So we should not think on those lines.”
