Rail Budget 2015: Push for clean, green energy in Railways

1,000 MW solar plants would be set up in next 5 years

New Delhi: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday announced a slew of measures to promote green and sustainable energy in Railways. Prabhu announced the launch of a water conservation mission and added that expansion of water harvesting systems will continue.

In order to tap solar power, Prabhu said that 1,000 MW solar plants would be set up by developers on railways and private land in the next 5 years. An environment directorate would also be set up in Railway Board.

Prabhu also added that noise levels at locos would be at par with international standards. CNG and Diesel and locomotives running on LNG are currently under construction, says Prabhu.
