BJP state vice-president said PMK or MDMK don’t have the vote share

Chennai: To firebrand speaker Vaiko, MDMK chief, the Sri Lankan Tamils and fishermen issues are closer to heart and he did not waste time in firing salvos at Prime Minister Narendra Modi; for the PMK, the BJP led-National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was but a means to gain a foothold in the state. Both, apparently began to show their true colours – Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by Vaiko on December 8, 2014, quit the NDA in Tamil Nadu accusing the BJP government at the Centre of acting against Tamils and betraying the people of the state, while the PMK is beginning to show its political ambition.
“It is political suicide for the PMK or MDMK to tread alone. They don’t have the vote share and no major political party is waiting to receive them with open arms,” says M. Chakravarthy, BJP state vice-president, in an exclusive interview to DC. Here are the excerpts:
Q) The rift in the NDA is widening. The PMK has unilaterally announced Dr Anbumani Ramadoss as the CM candidate.
Everyone knows that the PMK is not capable of rallying other parties behind it. It will be political suicide for the PMK and MDMK to tread alone. They don’t have the vote share and no major political parties are willing to receive them with open arms. The PMK was able to win a Lok Sabha seat only because of the BJP or else it would have remained a party with no MP.
Q)With NDA facing a thinning of its constituents, will it survive till 2016 Assembly polls?
The NDA will survive without any doubt. Once the UP and Bihar election results come in our favour, the parties will start coming back to us. What option do they have now? They can’t join the AIADMK or DMK. They have no option.
Q) Is DMDK founder Vijayakanth the only ally on whom the BJP can bank on?
He is not interested to go anywhere. Mr Vijayakanth has to be with the NDA. As far as the PMK is concerned, it has no presence outside Tamil Nadu and inside the state it is not visible beyond Tiruchy. In my view, the PMK is projecting Anbumani as the chief ministerial candidate to enhance its bargaining power within the NDA.
Q) Has not the Delhi election results lowered the saffron party’s image in TN?
Delhi election is but a small thing. We have won in Assam and Madhya Pradesh.
Q)Will there be political realignment for the Assembly poll next year?
There are possibilities. This remains to be seen.
