Valentine’s Day: Students groups to support lovers

VHP Telangana and Andhra Pradesh media in-charge

Hyderabad: Student organisations have come out in support of lovers, couples and others who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The Osmania University JAC, the All-India Student Federation and other backward classes and minority community student organisations will be coming together for the Freedom to Love programme at the OU Arts College.

“We are basically opposing the moral policing by the Bajrang Dal and other Right-wing outfits who force couples or lovers to get married. It is a democratic country and everyone has the right to freedom of expression and freedom to love. We are not indulging in anything vulgar,” said Krishank, student leader of OU JAC.

Other AISF student leaders said, “A large number of people, including couples and youngsters, would gather at the OU Arts College. We will show that we do not fear outfits like the Bajrang Dal and others.”

However, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal members had their own take. “They are our brothers and sisters. We are not against them, but we are against this foreign festival and the Western culture that is killing our Indian culture. We are planning to reach out to youngsters in a peaceful way. If we are able to make even 200 youngsters aware, there will be 200 less people celebrating February 14 next year,” said Bharath Vamsee, VHP Telangana and Andhra Pradesh media in-charge.
