Sreesanth: From World Cup winner to shopkeeper offering discounts

It looks like Indian bowler has decided to give the cricket pitch a break

Mumbai: Shanthakumaran Sreesanth’s career has been a complicated one. Having made his ODI debut in Nagpur in 2005, his short international career has always seen him in the limelight for the wrong reasons. Come to think of it, and let’s be honest here, what’s the first thing that comes to our mind when we think of Sreesanth? It’s the unfortunate ‘slapgate’ involving Harbhajan Singh at the 2008 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) so much so that now aggression and Sreesanth are synonymous with each other.

Sreesanth, who was on a high after his 2011 World Cup performance was nowhere to be seen on the cricket field playing for his country, as his name popped up in every controversy the sport had to offer, the recent being the IPL spot-fixing scandal. After trying to take some anger management classes by trying his feet in television with TV show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, it looks like Sreesanth has given up the cricket pitch for good.

Wondering what we’re talking about? No, he’s not giving up sports but hear this – Sreesanth, on Thursday, has ‘slapped’ himself opening a sports shop – S36 in the presence of his parents and close friends.

Now who could fathom such a situation where Sreesanth, a guy with uncontrollable anger management issues come up with a sports shop! While he is known for directing his steep bouncers well, it looks like Sreesanth has started his new spell on an over pitched delivery, with the bowler-turned-businessman already offering 40 per cent discount on his products.

And while this maybe a start to a new ‘vocation’, we only hope his customers are not victims of his aggression.
