Garden Restaurant to be demolished for Metro

Foundation pillars will be destroyed and hence, the building has to be demolished

Hyderabad: While the Metro Rail pillars opposite Secunderabad Clock Tower are being constructed, the owners of Garden Restaurant, which is to be demolished, are still waiting for a notice from the government, and compensation. Mohammed Kasim, the owner of Garden Restaurant, said, “Two years ago we received a notice following which we approached the courts as the officials were taking a little more area than required. The court order was in our favour and they have to now come 26 feet inside from the road.”

Due to this condition, the foundation pillars of the restaurant will be destroyed, and hence, the building has to be demolished. Mr Kasim said, “I am waiting for my compensation which has still not been given by the government. It has to pay as per the prevailing market price. Till that comes, we will not vacate the place.” The 70-year-old structure is a landmark of Secunderabad. The owners are prepared to demolish the hotel and completely re-build it.

N.V.S. Reddy, managing director of Hyderabad Metro Rail, said, “The land acquisition process is going on. We are going to acquire the required space and compensate the owners.” According to sources in the government, the exact title of the land is not clear, hence the delay. But as the restaurant is very old, compensation has to be granted to the owners.

This particular corridor of the Metro Rail has an elevated structure where the viaduct will go above the existing viaduct that is coming from Tarnaka corridor. This double elevation will also be a major inter-connecting point. The Parade Ground station, where these two corridors meet, will have a heavy flow of people as they can go to Secunderabad station and also Falaknuma. The other line will take them to Tarnaka and Uppal.
