Gokaraju may get fiat from Guntur authorities

Guntur district administration plans to issue notices to the owners of illegal buildings

Guntur: The Guntur district administration plans to issue notices to the owners of illegal buildings on the banks of the Krishna River and take action according to norms. The administration has been under pressure from various quarters, particularly the Congress, YSRC and the Left, who have been demanding that it demolish all illegal buildings on the river’s banks. The demands had been particularly strident after BJP leaders set the foundation stone for the party's state office on a half acre plot on the river bank.

Official sources said BJP MP and industrialist Gokaraju Gangaraju, who owns a guesthouse and other buildings on the Krishna River bank, will also be among those who will get notices. The MP had donated the land for the BJP state office, on which Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu had set the foundation stone on January 24. BJP state president and MP K. Haribabu was present on the occasion.
Right from that day, criticism has been mounting against the BJP, the party being accused of violating river conservation rules.

Mr Venkaiah Naidu had announced that the BJP will not begin constructing the party office till it gets all clearances. Recently, CPI state secretary K. Ramakrishna and CPM politburo member B.V. Raghavulu and other Left leaders, had inspected the river banks and demanded removal of illegal constructions. Further, Guntur revenue officials, led by joint collector Sridhar, conducted inspections and reported 26 illegal constructions on the river banks.

Guntur collector Kantilal Dande on Tuesday said that 26 illegal constructions were identified on the Krishna’s banks and notices would be issued to the owners. He said that action would be initiated according to law.
