OnePlus is a smartphone brand, which is making news for a while now. When the brand unveiled its first smartphone, the OnePlus One, OnePlus had shipped the handsets with CyanogenMod, a forked version of Google’s Android operating system.
However, the relationship between Cyanogen and OnePlus was shaky and turned sour after Cyanogen disagreed with OnePlus’ online contest and later after the signup of Cyanogen with Micromax in India. OnePlus has finally decided to develop their own operating system, naming it OxygenOS.
The brands blog posted a welcoming display of the new OxygenOS. However, it does not seem like it is in complete final stage as the official date for launch of the new OS has not been announced. Secondly, the forum also asks its users and fans for suggestions on the new operating system. OxygenOS seems to be based on Android itself, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.
OnePlus reasons out the name for the new operating system as OxygenOS, stating, “As an element, Oxygen is the epitome of simplicity, yet it’s also extraordinarily powerful. Oxygen is all around us. It’s part of us and everything we do. It creates the water that carves out valleys and moves mountains. By itself, it’s simple and pure—a fundamental building block. But, as a part of something greater, it can do amazing things. Just like us.” OxygenOS will be available as an OTA update for all OnePlus smartphone users. There is no official confirmation about the launch date, and also no information if there will be an Indian version for the update.
For now, OnePlus has revealed that there will be more information about OxygenOS on February 12, 2015. Stay tuned.
