Two women die of swine flu in Hyderabad, toll at 34

46 new cases were diagnosed on Thursday taking the total number of cases to 583

Hyderabad: On Thursday, two female patients succumbed to H1N1 at Gandhi Hospital taking the death toll in the state to 34. Thursday's deaths included a 58-year-old woman and another 80-year-old elderly patient. Both had come to Gandhi Hospital after getting treatment at private hospitals.

Meanwhile, 46 new cases were diagnosed on Thursday taking the total number of cases to 583. Twelve junior doctors have tested positive for H1N1 at Osmania General hospital and according to officials, they they have been sent home.

A senior doctor said, “We have decided to give home isolation treatment to them. They are being given antibiotics and have been told not to interact with anyone at home. This is the best treatment for them.”

What is worrying is that people who are infected are still moving about freely and there is no proper cough etiquette being followed. In a review meeting with senior officers, government health workers said that private hospitals must be asked to follow protocols properly.
