Baby’s Telugu connection

Telugu playback singer Ramya Behara wants more of Bollywood
Hyderabad: The Hindi song Main Tujhse Pyaar Nahin Karti from the recently-released film, Baby, was sung by Telugu singer Ramya Behra.
The song has been steadily climbing the charts and Ramya, who has quite a few hit Telugu numbers to her credit, is pretty excited. “This was initially a track song. When the song was recorded I didn’t expect that they would have it in the film. I thought that they might opt for another top singer. But the director and lyricist liked it and retained it,” says Ramya. A track song is one that is recorded to provide a blueprint for the final playback singer so that he or she can get a “feel” of it before recording the final version.
Born in Narasa-raopet of Guntur district, Ramya had no intention of becoming a singer. “I didn’t like music initially, but my mother forced me to join a music school when I was in Class VII,” she says.
Her first Telugu film was Vengamamba. “Keeravani sir introduced me to films. But it was not a full song, just a few lines. He again gave me an opportunity in Rajanna for which I sang for a child,” says Ramya.
“I never dreamt of becoming a playback singer, but now I am settled in this career,” she says. Some of the recent films that Ramya has sang in were Oka Laila Kosam, Loukyam, Chinnadana Nee Kosam and Chakkiligintha.
With the song from Baby becoming a hit, Ramya now wants more. “I would like to sing more Hindi songs. Though I am fluent in Hindi, director Neeraj Pandey and lyricist Manoj helped me to sing it perfectly,” she says.
Ramya has also given playback in the NTR Jr and Kajal Aggarwal-starrer Temper. Apart from Telugu and this Hindi song, Ramya has also sung in Tamil and Kannada films. “I would like to sing in all languages,” she says.
