At press meet, Barack Obama calls Narendra Modi a ‘Bollywood star’

Modi, Obama have achieved a breakthrough in operationalisation of the nuclear deal

New Delhi: US President Barack Obama on Sunday addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘Bollywood star’ refering to the latter's US visit in September 2013.

Indian-Americans from across the nation gave a ‘rockstar’ treatment to PM Modi at the prestigious Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple, where nearly 20,000 strong gathering of Indian Diaspora welcomed the Indian leader.

In a landmark move, both PM Modi and President Obama achieved a breakthrough in operationalisation of the stalled nuclear deal in a major outcome of the talks today.

It is understood that the breakthrough was achieved over 'one-on-one' talks between the two leaders over tea. Both leaders also held extensive discussions on enhancing cooperation in crucial areas of defence, trade and commerce and climate change.

During the press meet, Obama said that both Modi and him share a good chemistry, which goes beyond their strategic partnership.

“We have been able to build a fairly good relationship. We are reflecting the warmth between the Indian people and the American people. We are natural partners because we share the same values. We are the world’s two largest democracies,” said Obama.

On a lighter note, Presidemt Obama said that PM Modi gets less sleep than he does.

“During talks we compared the amount of time we get, to get some sleep, seems Modi gets less than I do,” he added.

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama landed in New Delhi for their three-day visit of India.

PM Modi was at the Air Force Station at Palam to greet the visiting dignitaries. The three shared pleasantries before President Obama sat in his presidential vehicle 'The Beast' and left for his hotel ITC Maurya.

Obama was accorded a grand 21-gun salute ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Soon after he visited the Rajghat to pay floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
