Bollywood in a patriotic mood

Subhash K. Jha finds out the patriotic side of these celebs

Boman Irani: Without doubt my favourite patriotic song is Ae Mere Pyare Watan by Manna Dey. I sing it all the time. It just makes me cry. It’s a song dedicated to the country, to home.

Ayushmann Khurrana: Vande Mataram by A.R. Rahman and Lataji is my favourite, followed by Mera Rang De Basanti Chola which inspires me no matter who sings it. The most inspiring movie I’ve seen is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti. It’s contemporary, relevant and non-jingoistic.

Malaika Arora Khan: Sare Jahan Se Achcha….I don’t know what happens to me when I hear that song. It fills me with pride for being Indian. My favourite national figures: All freedom fighters who brought us where we are today. No doubt, they’re the true heroes.

Prasoon Joshi: Vande Mataram sung by Lataji is my favourite patriotic song. My favourite national figure is Ashoka, The Great.

Mahesh Bhatt: My favourite patriotic song is Kar Chale Hum Fida by Kaifi Azmi and favourite film is Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat. Favourite national figure? Rabindranath Tagore.

Dia Mirza: My favourite song is Hemant Kumar’s Insaaf Ki Dagar Pe from Ganga Jumna because it addresses children and tells them their responsibility as Indian citizens. I also love Vande Mataram. Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi is my favourite patriotic film. I watched it when I was very young. I realised for the first time what love for the country is. The national figure who evokes a deep sense of patriotism in me is Mahatma Gandhi.
