Bengaluru: Parents disown rape victim fearing stigma

The class 10th student was allegedly raped by three youths

Tumakuru: The agony of a class 10th student who was allegedly raped by three youths, got further compounded after her parents having disowned her.

Police said the girl’s parents, who reside in a village near Nittor in Gubbi taluk, have reportedly disowned her fearing social stigma. The girl has now been admitted to the government observation home in Tumakuru.

Gubbi circle inspector Venkataramanna said medical reports had confirmed that she was raped.

The three youths, who were arrested in this connection by Cheluru police, had confessed to the crime during an interrogation. The accused have been identified as Manjunatha (25) of Baguru village, who runs a cell phone retail shop at Nitturu, Sunil (26) of Devarayapatna, who works with a car finance agency in Tumkuru and an eighteen year old boy.

The crime was allegedly abetted by a woman pimp Savitha, who had served the girl juice laced with sedatives. She was also arrested by the police.

Meanwhile in another incident a class 8 student was allegedly raped by a construction worker in Nonavinakere police station limits in Tiptur taluk. The accused Bheemanna and the abetters, Shashikala and Dharmesh, are still at large. The girl hails from a poor family and her father works as security guard at a shop in Bengaluru, police said.
