Lingaa distributor seeks Madras High Court nod for hunger strike

Distributors from other districts will also participate in the hunger strike

Chennai: A distributor of Rajinikanth starrer film Lingaa, filed a petition in the Madras HC seeking permission for hunger strike on January 10, along with other distributors, urging the movie producer and the superstar to compensate the loss incurred by the distributors and theatre owners due to the film’s failure.

The petition was filed by R. Singaravadivelan, managing partner of Marina Pictures, and is likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

In his petition, Mr Singaravadivelan submitted that his company had taken distribution of the film, Lingaa in Tiruchirapalli and Thanjavur districts. It had collected Rs 8 crore from theatre owners in the districts and had purchased distribution rights. At the time of collecting the money, assurance was given that the film will be a hit.

Since it was a superstar movie, the theatre owners and distributors had invested huge sums for purchasing the distribution rights. But there was a meagre collection for the film and it had resulted in huge loss to the theatre owners, he added.

The theatre owners approached his company to repay the amount for the loss incurred by them. The petitioner had approached the producer to compensate the loss. But there was no response to his demand.

Distributors from other districts will also participate in the hunger strike.
