8 Stray dogs poisoned to death in Bengaluru

Two theories are doing the rounds on the cause of death

Bengaluru: Eight stray dogs and some crows dropped dead after eating biryani, which was allegedly laced with poison, in Goripalya on Sunday evening.

The carcasses were found next to the Jagjivan Ram Nagar police station, and residents protested on Monday morning. BBMP officials rushed to the spot and took the carcasses for postmortem to determine the cause of death.

The dogs may have been poisoned by an area resident or by thieves, the locals said. DCP (West) Labhu Ram visited the spot and stepped up security in the area, which is considered sensitive. A peace meeting has been organised among the leaders of all communities, he said.

Two theories are doing the rounds on the cause of death. One, someone in the area might have poisoned the dogs as the stray dog menace had increased in the area, and the other is that some thieves might have placed the poisoned biryani to have clear access in the night.

DCP (West) Labhu Ram visited the spot and took stock of the situation. As JJ Nagar is considered sensitive, extra police security was put in place to prevent any untoward incident, he said.

A peace meeting has been arranged among leaders of different communities in the area. Three years ago, 20 stray dogs were poisoned to death in the city.
