J&K Government formation: PDP says it’s ready for BJP alliance

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti hinted that the door was open for an alliance with BJP

Srinagar: While People’s Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday dropped enough hints about forging an alliance with the BJP to cobble up a new government in J&K, the latter said it was awaiting a formal initiation of dialogue with the PDP. “We appreciate Mehbooba Mufti’s gesture through media.

We await formal initiation of dialogue,” BJP leader Ram Madhav said. “We acknowledge that there is no structured dialogue as yet but the channels of communication are open,” responded PDP chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar.

Ms Mufti, after meeting Governor Narendra Nath Vohra at Raj Bhavan in Jammu on Wednesday, had invoked former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee’s vision and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi “has a big responsibility” towards J&K.

“We have to bring back Vajpayeeji’s policies,” she said. Ms Mufti hinted that the door was open for an alliance with BJP. She said, “A government should be one that is about welfare and peace, and we need Mr Vajpayee’s approach.”
