Loan waiver hits Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme in Andhra Pradesh

The main purpose of PMJY scheme is to provide Universal Access to banking facilities

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana has been hit by farm loan waiver scheme. All the banks in Andhra Pradesh are busy finalising the list of eligible farmers under the waiver scheme since last two months. Banks are not in a position to concentrate on opening new accounts under PMJY. So far, the banks have opened 43,08,493 accounts in rural and urban areas. Public sector banks have opened 16,87,905 new accounts in rural areas and 16,33,822 new accounts in urban areas. Regional rural banks have opened 7,15,057 accounts in rural and 2,03,190 accounts in urban areas. Private banks like ICICI and others opened 21,373 accounts in rural and 47,146 accounts in urban areas. The banks issued 23, 43,506 RuPay debit cards and there are 31, 34, 567 accounts with zero balance.

The main purpose of PMJY scheme is to provide Universal Access to banking facilities.
