Heavy rush as Thanka Anki nears Sannidhanam

The temple will be reopened on December 30 evening for the Makaravilakku festival

Kochi: The Sabarimala temple witnessed heavy rush on Friday as the procession carrying the Thanka Anki, the attire in gold to be adorned on Lord Ayyappa idol, reached sannidhanam.

The chariot carrying the golden attire weighing 420 sovereigns reached the Pampa Sree Ganpathy temple by noon. After facilitating pilgrims to offer prayers for close to two hours, the procession proceeded to Sannidhanam at 3 p.m.

The procession was given a reception at Saramkuthi by a team of Devaswom officials led by Executive Officer V.S. Jayakumar and finally it reached sopanam an hour later.

Thantri Kandararu Rajeevaru and Melshanti’ Ezhikkode E.N. Krishnadas Namboothiri received the sacred box containing Tanka Anki and adorned it on the Lord Ayyappa idol before the deeparadhana at 6.30 p.m.

The Mandalapooja will be held along with the Utchapuja at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday, also after adorning the golden attire on the deity.

The temple will be closed after Athazhapuja at 11.45 p.m, marking the culmination of the 41day Mandalam pilgrimage season. The temple will be reopened on December 30 evening for the Makaravilakku festival.
