Informers to report tax fraud in Telangana

The department even offers incentives of up to Rs 50,000 to informers
Hyderabad: The commercial taxes department has set up its own “informers’ network” along the lines of the police department, to check evasion of commercial taxes in Telangana. The department even offers incentives of up to Rs 50,000 to informers who give correct information on tax evasion by commercial establishments.
Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who assumed charge as minister, commercial taxes and cinematography at the Secretariat on Wednesday, expressed concern over rampant commercial tax evasion in the state and hoped that the informers will resolve the problem to a maximum extent.
“The government has set a target of collecting Rs 27,777 crore commercial tax for the year 2014-15. So far, only Rs 14,008 crore has been realised, while just three months are left to meet the target,” Mr Yadav said.
He stated that services of retired employees of commercial taxes department would be utilised as informers. “They know the modus operandi of the commercial establishments for evading taxes,” Mr Yadav added.
