VM Sudheeran speak affected govt image

Oommen Chandy told the legislators that the party is yet to take a final decision on it

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy drama prevailed during the Congress Legislative Party meeting held at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's official residence at Cliff House today.

Though it was a show of strength by the government to the PCC chief V. M. Sudheeran on his stand on the liquor policy, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the legislators that the party is yet to take a final decision on it.

Chandy alleged that most of the statements made by Sudheeran had dented the government's image badly. At one stage, Chandy revealed that people from various quarters had asked him which 'crazy' person had imposed dry day on Sundays.

“Chandy said 11 out of the 12 leaders who attended the KPCC government coordination committee meeting supported the government's decision with Sudheeran playing spoilsport.

Then a sub-committee was appointed to break the ice and again Sudheeran opposed. This means that only one individual and not the party members was standing against the government’s decision on the liquor policy ”, said a prominent Congress MLA.

Excise minister K. Babu agreed to Chandy's views saying that Sudheeran's stand has seriously affected the image of the party. K. Muraleedharan alleged that PCC chief has been forcefully imposing his views on the rest of the Congress leaders.

Sudheeran's deputy and vice president V. D. Satheeshan opined that liquor issue need not be re-examined and it should be considered as a closed chapter.
