Shiv Sena MP demands Ram temple

Shiv Sena demanding from the government that a grand Ram temple be built at Ayodhya

New Delhi: With BJP leaders making Hindutva statements in the recent days, the Shiv Sena, too, joined the chorus on Monday demanding from the government that a grand Ram temple be built at Ayodhya at the earliest.

Shiv Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire reminded the government in the Lok Sabha on Monday that the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had promised to build a Ram temple at Ayodhya if the BJP got a majority of its own.

“The oldest Muslim litigant Hashim Ansari has supported the issue. Scores of Muslim women have also met PM Narendra Modi and supported the demand for the construction of the Ram temple,” said Mr Khaire.

“We have also performed kar seva. A Ram temple should be built,” he said amid the Opposition MPs shouting at him.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the issue was in court, but Mr Khaire continued to speak. He concluded by saying “Jai Shri Ram”, which was repeated by the BJP MPs.
