Khammam: Tension gripped Dosilla palli in Charla mandal on Monday when locals insisting on their presence at the scene of offence where a tribal was shot by cops due to mistaken identity and succumbed while undergoing treatment at NIMS in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The locals led by L. Venkat, Ravi Kumar and Brahmachari tried to enter the police security zone where police officials are investigating the firing by the police on Karam Narasimha Rao, who died while undergoing treatment at NIMS.

The police blocked their attempts to enter the scene of offence while investigation was on. They staged a dharna on Dosillapalli road.

L. Venkat, a local leader said the cops fired at adivasi Narasimha Rao without any reason while they were returning to their village.

The cops should answer about the firing and the guilty should be punished, he said, adding that the people of the mandal have been facing Naxal action on the one side and police killing on the other side.

Mani Kumar, a resident of Charla said the cops who conduct search operations, searched people coming from Charla mandal headquarters on Saturday night.

Two people, who were stopped, explained their identity to the police. But, Narasimha Rao and his friend Kanithi Sattibabu tried to move forward as the police did not call them.

But, the cops fired two rounds at them thinking that that they were fleeing. A bullet pierced the stomoch of Narasimha Rao.

Then, the cops shifted Narasimha Rao to a private hospital in Bhadrachalam first and to NIMS later. Rao succumbed in Hyderabad late on Sunday night.

Interestingly, the police did all these in a secret manner. But, the death of Rao exposed the cops and relatives of the victim and villages demanded a thorough enquiry.

The police tried to persuade the locals by promising them to suspend the cops if they found guilty. They also promised to give an ex-gratia Rs 10 lakh and home guard job to a member of the victim’s family.
