Weightage for recruitment process depends on academic marks and holding a written test

Chennai: Deprecating the practice of selecting candidates for lower posts like that of conductor, driver, junior posts, etc., solely based on interview by all the transport corporations in the state, that, too, only among employment exchange-sponsored candidates, the Madras HC issued a set of directions to be followed in the appointment to these posts, which included giving weightage to academic marks and holding a written test.

Justice D. Hariparanthaman directed the transport corporations to give weightage to academic marks obtained in the educational qualifications or hold a written test in commensurate with the qualification prescribed. He also directed the transport corporations to call for applications to fill up the posts by direct recruitment through the open market besides from the employment exchange.

Making it clear that this order was applicable to all transport corporations functioning in the state, the judge said the transport corporations may recruit persons through the TNPSC, or may form a centralised recruitment agency to conduct the written test and select candidates.

The judge was disposing of a petition from J. Kovaisamy, a candidate aspiring for the post of junior assistant, which sought a direction to consider his representation for appointment. The judge directed the authorities to give him an opportunity to participate in the next selection process without reference to his age.
