India make Unity World Cup semifinal

Host advance to last four after playing out goalless draw against Portugal

Hyderabad: Hosts India and Portugal played out a goalless draw in their match at the Unity World Cup, played here at the Lal Bahadur Stadium on Tuesday.Despite the draw, India and Group ‘A’ toppers Portugal have advanced to the semifinals, to be played in Goa on December 12 and 13.

India needed just one point to qualify for the last four round, and they were more than happy to play a safe game against Portugal.In the Group ‘B’ match played on Tuesday, Colombia thrashed Egypt 3-0. Colombia took the lead in the 28th minute through substitute Edision Medina, who volleyed a Christian Maicella cross into the net.

It was Medina again who doubled Colombia’s lead when, in the 39th minute, he fired home a long-range effort. Jonath Jimeniz completed the scoring when he found the back of the net a few minutes later.
